Law enforcement agencies statewide had extra officers patrolling for the Fourth of July weekend and the Douglas County Sheriff's Department alone reports 51 traffic stops, including five drunk driving arrests.

Officials say the goal was to use a saturated patrol to seek out suspected drunk drivers. Troopers say their efforts made the holiday weekend a safer one.

The following are statistics from the three-day enforcement:

  • 11 traffic citations
  • 10 misdemeanor arrests
  • 2 misdemeanor warrant arrests
  • 5 driving under the influence arrests
  • 2 minor in possession arrests
  • 1 drug arrest
  • 1 driving under suspension arrest
  • 2 careless driving citations
  • 1 willful reckless driving citations
  • 1 no proof of insurance citation
  • 32 written/verbal warning citations
  • 1 vehicle impounded

Extra enforcement was paid for with a $6,200 grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety.
