The Nebraska Court of Appeals has upheld the conviction and $250 fine for a man who sent profanity-laced e-mails to a former Nebraska professor.
Darren Drahota was convicted in Lancaster County Court in early 2007 of disturbing the peace of former University of Nebraska-Lincoln political science professor Bill Avery, who is now a state senator. Drahota appealed, representing himself.
On Tuesday, the Nebraska Court of Appeals upheld the conviction, saying that Drahota sent the menacing e-mails even after Avery had warned Drahota not to contact him.
The Appeals Court noted that Drahota used a libelous e-mail address -- averylovesalqueda@yahoo.com -- to send angry messages accusing Avery of treason, among other things.
