The state has taken an 18-month-old away from a La Vista mother after she allegedly advertised the baby for sale on the Web site Craigslist.

Sarpy County Attorney Lee Polikov tells Channel 6 News the action was taken late Friday afternoon.

Charges have not yet been filed against the mother, but Polikov says the most important thing was to get the toddler into state custody for the child's own protection.

The ad said the mother is a methamphetamine addict and that the boy deserves a mom who is not an addict. The ad went on to say the mom needed someone to take her son before she "did something crazy."

More information on the case is expected to be released in a few days.
