Cruiser Hits Deer

Two accidents involving deer overnight resulted in significant damage to the vehicles.

One of the crashes involved a state trooper. Cass County Sheriff Wm. C. Brueggemann says the use of seatbelts appeared to prevent injuries.

The Cassgram reports that just before 10pm, deputies responded to a one-vehicle rollover accident on State Spur 13H (Cedar Creek Spur/114th Street) just south of Ashland Road. An 18-year-old Louisville man was northbound and swerved to miss the deer. His Ford F-150 pickup rolled as it slid down the embankment.

At 1:15 this morning sheriff’s deputies responded to a car-deer accident on Interstate 80 at mile marker 419. A Nebraska State Patrol Trooper was eastbound when a deer entered the roadway and the 2000 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor struck the deer, causing extensive front-end damage. Both airbags deployed.
