The wife of Nebraska State Treasurer Shane Osborn filed a temporary restraining order Tuesday, alleging she’s been physically abused for several years.

In court documents obtained by Channel 6 News, Teri Osborn filed for a protection order saying she's been the victim of physical and emotional abuse.

The affidavit was filed Tuesday. The couple filed for a divorce in March. The affidavit is a handwritten, five-page document that lays our specific allegations of abuse.

She describes abuse at his family's cabin last Christmas. "Shane and I got into an argument and he started to beat me, punching me all over my body. I was holding my daughters."

A January argument escalated into "threats to kill me. I was trying to cover my girls from his fists. I truly believed he was going to kill me and my girls."

She says she went to authorities, but then "made a mistake and lied on Shane's behalf. I felt no one would believe me and he always told me he would take my kids away."

Douglas County Sheriff Tim Dunning said investigators interviewed Teri Osborn several months ago but found no evidence of abuse.

She also accuses her husband of placing cameras around their northwest Omaha home to spy on her, using every resource he has, including those "working for our country."

The couple has been married since 2003 and they have three children.

Teri Osborn declined comment until she says she can talk with her lawyer. Osborn's attorney, Bill Bianco, released this statement Tuesday afternoon:

“Our client, Shane Osborn, has taken the high road in the processing of his divorce by keeping this a private matter. Unfortunately, Mrs. Osborn's former boyfriend has recently moved in with her and appears to endeavor to interfere with the divorce process and to harm Mr. Osborn's reputation. He is hopeful that both parties can resume working together for the best interests of their children."

The ex-boyfriend is father to Teri's oldest son whom Shane adopted.

Shane can contest the temporary protection order at a hearing June 9th.

The 34-year-old Osborn came to national prominence in 2001 when flying a routine Navy mission in the Pacific. His plane was hit by a Chinese fighter jet over international airspace and he was forced to land in China.

Shane and his crew of 23 were held hostage by the Chinese government for 12 days.
