Douglas County deputies have arrested a man they say is responsible for sexually assaulting a heartland woman in her home.
Authorities say the victim met her attacker, 32-year-old Richard Olinger III, at A.J.'s Sports Bar. She drove him back to her home, where he beat, strangled and sexually assaulted her.
Somehow the woman managed to escape. She went to her neighbor's house to call for help, but no one answered the door. Knowing her attacker was looking for her, she hid under a deck.
The victim told authorities that Olinger passed her in the dark twice, but did not notice her. When her neighbors finally returned home, she left her hiding place and asked for help.
"I just saw this face in the door, just beaten really badly, almost unrecognizable that it was even a human face," neighbor Dave O'Donnel said.
O'Donnell said the woman seemed disoriented, but knew that she was in trouble and needed help.
Douglas County Attorney Stu Dornan says the woman was able to provide deputies with information that led to the arrest of Olinger.
"It's first-degree sexual assault, which carries one to 50 (years), and strangulation, which carries one to 20 years," Dornan said.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Department says the victim of this attack is still hospitalized, and will have to undergo surgery for her injuries.
