Assault In Plattsmouth

A 38-year-old Plattsmouth woman was assaulted as she slept in her residence sometime Monday night or Tuesday morning.

Police patrol units were called to the scene about 6am Tuesday after the victim was able to remove some restraints placed on her and went to a neighbor’s residence for help. The assailant had left the scene some time earlier.

The Cassgram reports the woman talked with Investigator Andrew Kennan at the University of Nebraska Medical Center Tuesday.

She believes all doors and windows to her residence in the mobile home park in the 1700 block of South 15th had been locked. Kennan says there was no sign of forced entry.

A male entered the residence and assaulted her. The woman suffered superficial injuries to her body, says Kennan. She told police she did not think she was sexually assaulted but police are utilizing several of the techniques used in a sexual assault case because they may be helpful in identifying a suspect.

It was dark and the woman was not able to provide a description. She said the man had a deep voice and was very strong. It is not known at what time the attack occurred or when the intruder left the residence. The victim had passed out for an undetermined amount of time as a result of the ordeal.

Police are releasing few details about the assault itself.

From evidence gathered to this point, police believe the man was specifically targeting this woman and there is no reason to believe it was a random incident, says Kennan.

Police are asking anyone with information that could help the investigation to call the department at 296-3311.
