The Illinois Department of Agriculture says corn planting statewide is behind schedule so far this year.
Typically, two-thirds of the Illinois corn crop is planted by early May, but this year just 5 percent is in the ground.
Officials say above-normal rainfall is to blame for the delays. The National Weather Service is forecasting a reprieve from the rain in the weeks ahead.
Indiana and Michigan have reported similar problems. But other states in the region, including Iowa, Nebraska and Minnesota, haven't suffered and have passed the 50 percent mark.
