The Nebraska Attorney General's Office has filed a lawsuit accusing an Omaha landlord of discriminating against Mexicans. The lawsuit is the first since last year's dispute between Attorney General Jon Bruning and the Nebraska Equal Opportunity Commission.

The NEOC and Bruning fought for months last year after Bruning blasted the commission for handing him a case of alleged discrimination against a Hispanic couple who were illegal immigrants. The Fair Housing Act makes it illegal to discriminate against people based on race, ethnicity and other factors, regardless of their legal status.

The new lawsuit involves a couple who are U.S. citizens and a landlord who raised the rent after learning the husband is Mexican-American.
