Governor Mike Johanns is calling on State Treasurer Lorelee Byrd to reconsider her decision not to resign.
Earlier Wednesday Byrd entered her guilty plea to one count of official misconduct in an agreement with the attorney general's office.
Johanns says after pleading guilty, the next logical step is for Byrd to resign. But Byrd said Tuesday she would not step down.
Johanns says she should think about what will be involved with the impeachment process.
The governor says he expects a resolution impeaching Byrd to be introduced on the first day of the legislative session January seventh.
Johanns says his calling on her to resign is the governor's way of impeaching her.
No matter what happens with Byrd, Johanns says the treasurer's office will be under greater scrutiny than ever before.
