He may have lost in the mayoral primary, but Omaha City Councilman Jim Vokal isn't done with public service. The City Council Tuesday appointed him by a vote of 6-0 to the MECA board of directors. Vokal abstained.
His five-year term starts May 9th and runs through 2014. His first day on the job won't begin until June 9th, the day after his term on the City Council ends.
The City Council and mayor take turns appointing a Metropolitan Entertainment and Convention Authority member. Gail Werner-Robertson's position is up next, in 2010.
Vokal replaces Terry Moore, who was appointed in 2004 by Mayor Fahey.
Vokal will join Werner-Robertson, David Kramer, Jennifer Mahlendorf and David Sokol on the five-person board.
MECA oversees operation of the Qwest Center and will do the same for the new downtown stadium once it is built.
