Two armed men who held up an Omaha post office Monday morning were caught a short time later thanks to a witness who wrote down the license number of the getaway car.
The pair robbed the post office at North 29th and State streets just before 11 a.m., fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash.
A witness saw them get into a car and took down the license plate number. Police tracked the vehicle to a house at 36th and Newport Avenue where three women came out saying the two men were in the basement.
Officers attempted to contact the men and after about an hour they came out without further incident. They could face federal charges in addition to state charges.
“We always welcome the public's help and this is a great example of somebody paying attention and got a good description and license plate numbers and that license plate was key to this," said Omaha Police Lt. Darci Tierney.
