The Legislature's Judiciary Committee advanced a bill Thursday that would require a doctor performing an ultrasound before an abortion to display images of the fetus so the woman could see them.
Abortion opponents say it could prevent abortions. Critics of such ultrasound bills say they're thinly veiled attempts to make women feel bad.
The committee added an amendment to the bill to clarify that the images would be displayed in a way that women could choose to see them, instead of having to look away from the images. The amendment would also remove a requirement now in the bill that doctors tell women that abortion could cause psychological trauma.
