Comedian Larry the Cable Guy will perform at Memorial Stadium on July 4th as a thank you to Husker fans. It was announced Monday that an agreement was reached for the Pawnee City native to do a Lincoln show that will be taped for a Comedy Central special.

Athletic Director Tom Osborne said the $4 ticket cost plus $2 handling charge will allow Larry, real name Dan Whitney, and the university to break even. Any profits will go to his Git-R-Done Foundation, which helps treat children with hip displaysia. Whitney's son has the condition.

Whitney had announced the show on a syndicated radio program March 9th, but Osborne said the next day that the university had not given approval for Memorial Stadium to be used.

Whitney is a longtime Husker supporter who owns a skybox at the stadium. Football season-ticket holders have first dibs on the 50,000 tickets starting at 8 a.m. Tuesday. Tickets will be available to the general public at the Husker box office or at huskers.com starting Friday.

"Just to be able to perform in the stadium that I grew up listening to all my heroes is going to be unbelievable," said Larry/Dan.

"He's a big Husker fan and he doesn't come in as much as he used to, but I have seen him three or four times, Dan's a nice guy,” says Jim Andreasen of Husker Hounds.

Husker season-ticket holder Nate Grimes questions the decision. "I'm not a fan of him and I just think we should keep it Husker football in Memorial Stadium. It's hallowed ground."

Will his adult act play in Memorial Stadium? Whitney says don't worry about it. “It's not going to be like that at all, I’ve never done that, never will do that, but I would consider it very seventh-grade, juvenile, stupid is what I would pretty much consider it."

If the show sells out it would be his biggest crowd ever. "As just a solo event this will be my all-time largest and it will be the largest event that any comedian has ever done. Nobody's ever done that many people, so it'll be fun. I'll be nervous. I've already thrown up four times."

It'll be a big weekend in Lincoln. The city will present its Uncle Sam Jam with fireworks set to live music by Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra on Friday, July 3rd at Oak Lake Park.
