Wind energy companies have submitted proposals to the Omaha Public Power District to supply energy from potential wind farms in Cass County.
The Cassgram reports that county officials have been working on specific zoning regulations to have regulations in place in advance of any formal permit application should one of the companies be awarded a contract.
As in the overlay district guidelines, Zoning Administrator Jim Ruhge, Marlene Iles of the zoning office and planning commission members reviewed other counties’ plans and made modifications specifically for Cass County.
Two of the biggest areas of concern for the planning commission were property line setbacks for wind turbines and setting up the decommissioning plan. Then what to require for paying for tear-down and clean-up of the wind towers when they are no longer in use.
