Conditions are improving in northwest Nebraska after a blizzard dropped as much as 10 inches of snow in the area.

Art Hutcheon of the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, Wyoming, said Tuesday evening that the worst is over.

Interstate 80 east of the Wyoming border had reopened, but U.S. Highway 20 from the border to Crawford remained closed. Stretches of state highways 71, 29 and 250 also were closed in the Nebraska Panhandle.

Authorities urged caution on snowy and icy stretches of highways that are open.

The National Weather Service said at least 8 inches of snow fell in Rushville and Chadron.

Wind gusts of 62 mph were reported in Cherry County.
