Nebraska Gets "D" on Mental Health Care Report Card
Nebraska has been given a "D" grade in a nationwide report card on mental health care for adults.
The report released Wednesday by the National Alliance on Mental Illness says Nebraska is making progress in its move toward more community-based mental health programs, but the state "still has a long way to go."
The report graded states and the District of Columbia in four areas -- health promotion, financing and treatment, consumer and family empowerment, and community integration. It used 65 criteria.
The four grades were averaged for an overall grade.
Six states were given B's. Eighteen got C's, 21 got D's and six got F's. The national average was a D.
Nebraska also received a D in 2006, the last year the report was issued.
