Shortly after 9:30 p.m., on Tuesday, February 24, 2009, the driver of a semi trailer truck was requested by the state’s automated weigh in motion system to enter the Weigh Station.

A trooper with the Nebraska State Patrol Carrier Enforcement Division observed the driver of the semi, 32-year-old Angela Brown, of Gadsden, Tennessee, stagger as she brought her required paperwork into the Weigh Station. Brown was also observed to have slurred speech.

A drug recognition evaluation conducted on Brown indicated she was under the influence of drugs. At the time, she was found to have 5 different prescriptions for Central Nervous System (CSN) Depressants in her possession. All of the prescriptions were prescribed to Brown.

“We may well have averted a tragic situation,” said Captain Gerry Krolikowski, Commander of the Nebraska State Patrol Carrier Enforcement Division. “While the majority of commercial motor vehicle drivers obey the laws, the size, maneuverability and stopping distance of these trucks makes it imperative that they are operated by drivers that are in full control of their faculties.”

Brown was hauling a load of pet supplies out of Colorado. She was lodged in the Lincoln County Jail on a charge of Driving Under the Influence of Drugs.
