Busy County Road To Get Improvement

A busy county road in Cass county will be improved. Church to Highway 6 is officially in the planning stages again.

The Cassgram reports that action passed unanimously by the Cass County Board of Commissioners directed Road Superintendent Lenny Thorne to resume working with engineers and working on right-of-way acquisition. Commissioners stated intentions of taking the necessary funding from the Inheritance Tax Fund. It’s hoped construction will occur in 2010.

During the 1 & 6 Year Road Hearing earlier this month, Thorne said the county can not submit the project for federal assistance now so, "If we want Church Road to happen—we’re going to have to fund it."

Church Road was on this week’s agenda and commissioners again talked about the importance of the route.

"We need to move forward on this," said Board Chairman Ron Nolte. "We need to take the money out of Inheritance."

"I think something (development) is going to happen out there. It’s ripe," said District 1 Commissioner John Baroni.

Thorne told commissioners earlier this month the road rebuild is estimated at $400,000 to $500,000 and that paving is expected to add another $1.3 million to $1.4 million to the project. He said Tuesday he will have a better handle on the expected costs after the county’s engineering firm completes its work in several months.
