High Rate of STD’s Prompts More Testing

The Nebraska AIDS Project is expanding its well-known program of confidential and anonymous testing of HIV. NAP is now offering tests for chlamydia and gonorrhea for a small fee.

HIV testing will remain free.

The expansion of STD testing in response to record numbers of STD’s in Douglas County.

The Nebraska Department of Health & Human Services reports Chlamydia rates in Douglas County are 34% higher than the U.S. average and twice the rate of Nebraska.

Gonorrhea rates are 50% higher than the U.S. and three times higher than the Nebraska, for those between 14 and 20 years old.

STD testing, including HIV, is available at the Nebraska AID Project’s Omaha location at 139 South 40th Street.

Testing is done by appointment only 1:30-4:00pm on Wednesdays.

Walk-in testing is available on Thursdays and Fridays from 5pm until 10pm and on the last Saturday each month from 11am until 3pm

The fee for STD testing is $10. In cases of financial hardship, the fee is based on a sliding scale according to the ability to pay. Results are available in about a week. All testing is done confidential and anonymous.
