Council Bluffs Police say 87-year-old Onie Oberg died in a car accident near North 29th and Avenue A in Council Bluffs Monday afternoon.

Police say Oberg failed to stop at a stop sign at the location. A minivan broadsided her. A nearby neighbor called 911 but says she did not think the woman would survive because she was so entangled in the wreckage.

Oberg later died at Mercy Hospital.

The other driver was uninjured in the accident. Police say Oberg was not restrained.
