Back home in the Heartland after a historic trip. Two bus loads of people return to Omaha after witnessing the inauguration of President Barack Obama. The trip, at times, was difficult, but everyone enjoyed their trek into history.

Even the buses seemed to sigh with relief to be back in the Heartland.

As the people pile out it's hugs and warm greetings for all, everyone knows they witnessed history in Washington most feel like they are a part of history.

Yolanda Allen says, "It was awesome I like it."

Age eight, Yolanda Allen is one of the youngest to make the trip. She brought back souvenirs for her brother who stayed home.

Even though she was a part of history, because of her size Yolanda missed out on parts of it.

Yolanda Allen says, "No, I didn't see anything, my nana had to pick me up."

Yolanda got to go because her mother Eieatia knew even if it did not mean a lot to her daughter today, it would mean a lot to Yolanda in the future.

Eieatia Allen says, "I just thought it was more of an experience for my daughter to go because I do believe this is history and we're all a part of it but I thought it was so much more important for my daughter to be there."

Many people tell Channel -6- News they formed new friendships on the bus trip, and most documented the entire journey.

The feeling of closeness extended to the hundreds of thousands on the mall in Washington D.C.

Patti Salvo says, "You would be so packed with people all around you but then the crowd would go, "okay, step up, okay step down" it was just really cool, it was great."

And a part of history shared by all those who attended the inauguration.

Yolanda's grandmother actually paid for the trip, it was a Christmas present for the 8 year old.
