Nebraska Man Sentenced For Crop Insurance Fraud

A 66-year-old Loup City man has been sentenced to one year and one day in federal prison after pleading guilty to reporting false information to the Federal Crop Insurance Corp.

According to the Associated Press, officials with the U.S. Attorney's Office in Omaha say between 1998 and 2002, Paul Wentworth gave false information to the agency.

That led farmers to receive more than they were entitled to for loss reimbursement.

Wentworth had operated the Wentworth Crop Insurance Co.

His December 2006 indictment alleged the overpayment for crop losses totaled more than $6.7 million.

Federal officials say it doesn't appear Wentworth profited from his actions.

Wentworth's business closed in 2002. He's no longer in the insurance industry.
