Omaha Police continue to be kept busy investigating the recent rash of armed robberies.

A man armed with a gun stormed into the Subway restaurant near 74th and Pacific just before 7 p.m. Saturday demanding money. He may have been too brazen. At the sight of him, store employees ran to hide in a back room freezer where they called 911.

As the surveillance video shows, without employees to access the register, the man didn't get away with any money. Employees say the experience was a scary one.

"The adrenaline pumping through your body, surge of energy," said employee Tyler Prendergast. "You just don't really know how to act, you just do whatever you do right then and there, at the moment."

Police are also working on three other robberies with one resulting in a quick arrest. A man approached another man near 24th and F just after 9 p.m. and demanded money, then tried to physically assault him.

The suspect ran off without getting anything. Detectives happened to be in the area and eventually arrested 21-year-old Kody Hastie of Omaha.

Also Saturday night, the Family Dollar store at 30th Street and Newport Avenue was robbed around 6:30 p.m. The Burger King just 10 blocks away was robbed just before 9 p.m.

In each case, two gunmen walked in, demanded money and after being given cash, ran from the scene.

Anyone with information concerning any of the robberies is asked to call police at 444-7867.

obed, what if it's a stolen gun (as most thug guns are)and pawning it would get them busted because the pawnshops just call OPD and run the serial # by them to check for stolen before they buy it?

Pawning a gun or other belongings would more then likely pay off better then robbing a store and it's legal. There are alternatives to robbing businesses that exist in the community.

I'm so glad that no one was hurt. Training and awarness pays off here. Please don't bash OPD/City as it seems that the robbery divisions have been doing double time.(even caught two on 103 & Fort) The question is WHY the recent upswing of robberies? Economy, Gang initiations or whatever. How is this trend in similar cities? I'm sure that the police dept. has nothing to do with potholes or baseball agreements Buddy. Hat's off to the kid's in the store, and please keep pluggin' OPD.

I agree with you bob. Buddy does sound like he would be able to catch all these robberies red handed. I say move him to the front of the line of the police academy.

Do these robberies seem like gang related training to anyone else? This is the way it happens in California. It appears the gangs have established their roost.

I wonder what we are paying taxes for. It sure isn't for police protection or street maintainance. Oh, that's right trolley tracks, ball parks, and excessive fire and police pensions.
