Burglars in west Omaha seem to be getting impatient. Smash in and grab what you can has lately become a trend.

Not only are they stealing money and merchandise from businesses, but they are doing it in record time. It takes a few seconds and they are inside, a minute later they are gone.

Wake N Skate Boardhouse at 144th and Eagle Run is an X-games sports shop and clothing store. It is also one of the latest victims of smash and grab burglaries.

"They smashed the front door, one guy ran directly at the cash drawer while the other guy went around and did a little shopping spree for himself," says Hans Schroeder.

He has seen the video a hundred times. One struggles to break the cash register free from the counter and once he gets it, they are out the door.

The crooks didn't hold onto the register long. They turned into the neighborhood, smashed the register along 144th Street at about Pine and grabbed what they could.

Minutes later and one mile away, someone else smashed through the window at Plato's Closet. Again the thief wasted no time, heading directly for the register.

Manager Mitchell Lee was the one who found the damage. "Lot of change on the floor from the cash and wrap. When we played the tapes back we saw that an intruder was in here, stole all the change out of the registers and was in and out in less than a minute."

The same is true at the Subway at 138th and Manderson, inside for mere seconds, the amount of damage far outweighing the amount taken.

Omaha Police investigators will be looking at the surveillance tape from the three businesses to try and determine if any of these burglaries are related.
