They spend much of their time at the hospital, but Saturday young diabetes patients from Children's Hospital and the Nebraska Medical Center partied at the Omaha Children's Museum.
About 300 kids and their family members participated and Santa Claus even stopped by to listen to the Christmas wishes. Saint Nick also handed out special sugar free candy canes in addition to the other diabetes-friendly food that was served.
Organizers said the event takes children's minds off their illness and helps them connect with others facing the same thing. Thirteen-year-old Sarah Kort said that was the best part.
"You can understand what they're feeling together when you can't have something or just when you have feelings that you're all alone with your diabetes. So it's kind of nice to have people to relate to.”
