A standoff in a Papillion neighborhood ended peacefully Saturday morning. Residents were surprised to awaken and see their streets blocked off while some were asked to evacuate.

When Denise Wolever awoke she couldn't believe her eyes. "Lots of police cars and there was a mobile response unit, there were orange cones blocking off our street here."

Papillion Police were called to a home off Evergreen Drive and Redwood Lane around 6:30 a.m. They received calls from outsiders indicating threats were coming from inside a residence to relatives living elsewhere.

"There was an indication there were some weapons present and may have been involved with the situation and therefore we take all precautions,” said Papillion Police Chief Leonard Houloose, who said a father and son were inside the home.

Unable to make contact with them, the South Metro Swat Team was called in. By about 11:30 a.m., it was over.

"The father of course had been asleep so he really didn’t know what was going on and ultimately the other individual inside the house was also asleep. That would explain part of the reason why we were unable to make contact," said Chief Houloose.

Apparently the son had earlier made some threats to a relative before falling sleep. Houloose said the boy was taken into custody and to the hospital for medical evaluation. No word if any charges will be filed. His age was not disclosed.

Police did not say what led up to the disturbance. Neighbors told Channel 6 News the boy's parents are going through a divorce.

The incident won't change Wolever's feelings about the neighborhood. "I'm sure it was probably just an isolated incident, something happened. Families, we can all have our problems."

Chief Houloose was happy it ended as quietly as it did. "We are very fortunate in that everybody remained calm, which is of great help to us. It turned out about as best as we could hope for."
