Two separate traffic stops on Interstate 80 in central Nebraska led to three arrests and the seizure of nearly 32 grams of psychedelic mushrooms and nearly 124 lbs. of marijuana.
Shortly after 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 3, 2008, a trooper with The Nebraska State Patrol Troop C Headquarters-Grand Island stopped an eastbound, silver, 2008, Ford Focus, for failure to signal.
The stop was near the Gibbon Interchange, in Buffalo County, Nebraska. An NSP canine indicated an odor of drugs coming from the rear of the vehicle. A search of the vehicle led to the seizure of 123.5 lbs. of marijuana. The drugs were located in the trunk of the vehicle.
The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, 38-year-old David Patterson of Colton, California, is being held in the Buffalo County Detention Center on a charge of Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Deliver.
Earlier in the day around 4:16 p.m., Wednesday, December 3, 2008, a trooper with Troop C Headquarters-Grand Island stopped a 2004, black Cadillac CTS for broken right rear taillights in the parking lot of a local motel in Kearney, Nebraska. The trooper detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A search led to the discovery of 31.6 grams of psychedelic mushrooms and 17.7 grams of marijuana. The drugs were located in zip loc baggies in the passengers’ coat pocket.
The driver of the vehicle, 24-year-old Joshua Clement of Grand Island, and a passenger in the vehicle, 22-year-old Matthew Rich of Grand Island as also being held in the Buffalo County Detention Center on charges of Possession of Psychedelic Mushrooms with Intent to Deliver.
