A woman suspected of forging checks stolen from another woman's purse to make purchases at metro stores is the target of an investigation by the Douglas County Sheriff's Department.

The victim said her purse was stolen from her vehicle while she was pumping gas at 204th and Veterans Drive, just north of West Dodge in Omaha.

Investigators were able to retrieve images of a woman using the victim's checks at the 43rd and Ames Walgreen’s store and at the Bellevue Wal-Mart.

The woman was wearing a blue coat at one store and a red and white jacket at the other store. She has a tattoo on her right wrist and it appeared she was driving an older model Honda Accord or Civic.

A second woman was with the suspected forger at one of the stores. Her image is included.

If you know either woman’s identity, call the Douglas County Sheriff’s tip line at 444-6000.

I don't know where you are shopping that let's you return "said items the next day for cash". Any legitimate business usually requires a receipt with a return. If you paid with a credit card then (guess what) the return credit goes back on the original account. Many places give instore credits without receipts (but still is not cash).

With all the purse snatchings going on in the area, why aren't women just leaving their purses home. I wear a fanny pack under my coat which holds my check book and billfold. Also have a small purse with a long strap which I will sometimes wear under my coat instead. This purse (with a zipper) is just big enough to hold my checkbook and wallet as well. You can also buy a vest to wear. Many vests come with zipped pockets. You don't need to take a lot of credit cards when shopping. Just carry one credit or debit card and put it in your pants pocket. Believe me you can feel if someone is trying to pick your pockets. Just use common sense and be on guard at all times in any area and any time of day and night.

You buy things like toilet paper with stolen checks because if you went out to buy something expensive, it would raise too many red flags.... You're less likely to get caught right away if you buy inconspicuous items, yet can still rack up quite a mess for the account holder in a short amount of time. (Not to mention, return said items the next day for cash.) Before you ask, it's because of the job I do, not because writing stolen checks is a hobby.....

These are very good pictures for a change. Many times the pictures are so fuzzy. Based on these photos, someone must know who these women are. And seriously, was she buying TOILET PAPER with a stolen check/credit card? What the hell?!
