The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has scheduled a “Smokepole Deer Hunting” clinic for people interested in learning how to shoot and hunt deer with muzzleloading firearms at the Cabela’s LaVista store on Nov. 24.

The free clinic is scheduled for 6:30-9 p.m., with classroom instruction covering several topics, including muzzleloader equipment, hunting strategies, deer biology, and Nebraska’s muzzleloader deer hunting season.

The clinic is part of the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission’s Advanced Hunter Education Program, according to Commission’s Hunter Outreach Coordinator Aaron Hershberger.

Hershberger said interest in muzzleloading continues to grow and offers the hunter an opportunity to extend his or her deer hunting season and enjoy the extra challenge involved in shooting a muzzleloader. “Many hunters are intrigued by muzzleloaders but may not have all of the information needed to be comfortable in getting started. The clinic will cover what everyone needs to know to enjoy safe and successful deer hunting with a front- stuffer.”

For more information about the clinic, call Hershberger at (402) 471-6144. The Cabela’s LaVista store in located just south of Interstate 80 Exit 342.
