Authorities have identified two people injured Tuesday night when their pickup truck was hit by a train near Leshara, in Saunders County.

Forty-eight-year-old Timothy Van Buren, of Valley, was listed in critical condition Wednesday. He was the driver of the vehicle. Twenty-nine-year-old Vicki Wilson, also of Valley, was listed in fair condition.

The Burlington Northern/Santa Fe train was traveling northbound and the pickup was eastbound at the time of the collision around 7 p.m.

The accident happened at County Road T and County Road 7 near Lashara. There is a railroad crossing sign at the intersection but there are no crossing signals.

The train hit the passenger side of the truck and both occupants of the pickup were thrown from the vehicle. Wilson ended up pinned beneath the truck.

Members of the train crew helped the victims before rescue personnel arrived.

Wilson was transported by helicopter to the Nebraska Medical Center and Van Buren was transported there by a Yutan rescue squad.
