The Gage County highway superintendent and weed superintendent have resigned.

The resignations of highway boss Marlin Kliewer and Emily Rosenthal were accepted by the Board of Supervisors on Wednesday.

Both have been on paid suspension since August 1st as allegations of favoritism and discrimination swirl in the highway department.

Kliewer says he quit because of harassment from some board members and insubordination from some of his employees. Rosenthal has declined to comment.

Last year Rosenthal filed a sex discrimination complaint against the county with the Nebraska Equal Opportunity Commission.

This past December Kliewer was suspended for attending a training program without board approval. The suspension later was overturned.

Kliewer then filed a complaint against the county, saying he
believes he was suspended because he supported Rosenthal in her
complaint.
