Even with an increase of 4-tenths of a percent year-over-year, new numbers from the Nebraska Department of Labor Tuesday show the state's jobless rate remains much lower than the national average.
The jobless rate in Nebraska is now pegged at 3.5%. A year earlier it was 3.1%. By comparison, the national jobless rate is 6.1%. While the unemployment rate went up, the number of jobs in the state actually increased from August 2007 to August 2008.
State labor officials say Nebraska's diversified economy is key factor in keeping unemployment in check.
