Authorities say the Thursday night gunfire that took two lives in Omaha was a murder-suicide. They say 46-year-old Eric Bandur shot his ex-wife Laura and then turned the gun on himself.
The shootings happened around 8:30 at 336 Beverly Drive. That's just south of 78th and Dodge. Police say that Eric Bandur drove up from Phoenix, shot 36-year-old Laura Bandur and then killed himself.
Court documents indicate that Laura Bandur had a protection order against her ex-husband. The court papers provide a glimpse of a volatile and oftentimes abusive relationship, especially over the past year or so.
The relationship exploded Thursday night as paramedics tried in vain to keep Laura and Eric alive.
Investigators found a paper trail in this case that led directly to Eric Bandur.
Laura got the protection order in February of 2005. In it, she wrote that while in Phoenix she told Eric she was leaving, he pulled a loaded gun on her and told her he was going to kill her. Laura escaped only after he passed out. The incident ended when the Phoenix SWAT team talked Eric into surrendering.
In January of last year, after Eric asked to visit his daughter in Omaha, Laura wrote that she, "feared Eric will be following her and putting her safety in harms way."
In the course of the couple's divorce, the court found that Eric hit Laura, belittled her before the children and destroyed property. The judge ordered Eric to sell the couple's home in Phoenix and spilt the money with Laura. Just four days ago, the Maricopa County Court began taking child support payments out of Eric Bandur's checks.
On Thursday night, witnesses reported seeing a man walking away from the home right after the shooting. Channel 6 News has learned that was Eric Bandur's brother. We found him Friday but he refused to comment.
