A teacher at Lincoln's Pius X High School is among seven men accused of soliciting prostitution following a weekend sting.

Fifty-five-year-old Stephen Lacher was charged on Monday.

The school's superintendent, the Reverend Jim Meysenburg, says Lacher has taught science since fall 2005. Meysenburg says the school would investigate further and take action if warranted.

Police say Lacher was arrested after he offered an undercover female officer $100 for sexual acts.

Officer Katie Flood says the men offered amounts from $10 to $200 for sex. One offered $45 and an iPod.

Some of you people need to get a clue. The entire police force was not dedicated to this bust. So the transmitting of STDs and illicit drug use that accompanies the prostitution world should be ignored? Regardless of your personal opinions, this is still illegal and those involved in it should be punished. As for Mr. Lacher. Yes, he should absolutely have his name and picture plastered all over our TVs. Like police, firemen and politians, teachers should be held to higher standards because of their position. I do not feel sorry for him in the least. He did the crime... deal with the consequences!

Yes tailgating is illegal, silly. So is prostitution, but both are willing participants. The last time you were tailgated, were you a willing participant? Were you paid for it?

Actually, what I see is a double standard. A priest is charged with molesting children and there are trash talking and jokes everywhere. A teacher gets caught soliciting prostitution and people cry foul on the police! What? a teacher doesn't deserve the same trash talk and jokes? Both people, a priest and teacher, in high ranking positions, and both get caught soliciting illegal sex, and yet get treated different? Hipocrytes.

At least it wasnt a kid and at least he ASK! and didnt try taking it by force!I agree! Go to the play house next time! pay them a 100.00 and Im sure there are more bussiness men sitting right next to you, doing the same! leave the man alone. What did the Prostitute get? I dont see her picture all over the web!!!

I have to agree with the other people. Yeah prostitution is bad. But should this really be the highest priority for the police department? Getting an officer to essentially entrap men into paying for sex?

What a waste of time. Prostitution is the oldest profession in history. Go after the real criminals that hurt other people!

Posted by: Ex-Brit on Aug 5, 2008 at 03:57 PM
The police did the right thing...no customers, no prostitutes. Mr. Lacher has learned a painful but valuable lesson.

The problem is, prostitution is often at the core of very seedy illegal behaviors i.e drug use, drug dealing, violent abuse...ever heard of runaway children being forced into this type of world? I'm sorry but most of the posters are acting as if this behavior is acceptable. It is not, it is a criminal act and often the root of many other evils.

I agree with Ben. Give the guy a break. He didn't do anything with a student and he didn't try and pick up a male cop. He probably should have just went to the Playhouse and spent the $100 legally. Probably not for the same thing, but close.

So where are the pictures of the other six men? If one is condemned in a public venue, shouldnt they all be? While he didnt rape anyone or victimize a child, HIS life/reputation alone are ruined much as if he had.

Agree with Darren, for the most part. I do believe, though, that there are different units for different crimes, so provided a gang unit, for example, wasn't involved in this bust, that's all good. Anyone involved with kids should be held to a higher standard, especially if we want our kids to have teachers, etc. as role models vs. gangsta rappers and pro athletes.

You're right that tailgating is "wrong" - but not illegal. Prostitution and soliciting prostitution happens to BE ILLEGAL - that is why this man (and the others) were ticketed.

better an ADULT female than some kid...we've had enough of that in the news. Let the man get his jollies.

Posted by: Tim on Aug 5, 2008 at 02:21 PM
How come they didn't list the occupations of the other people arrested and post their picture in the news. Lets treat everyone fairly no matter where they work!!!!

And while this was happening there was another shooting. Hmmmm whats more important to the police, stopping people from having sex or stopping all the senseless shootings that keep happening.

Posted by: Hey Mary! on Aug 5, 2008 at 01:47 PM
Yeah it was WRONG! So is tailgating in traffic, but I bet you do that. And yet, that dangers of tailgating are more that buying a hooker.

Big deal! Of all the things police should be addressing, this is the most trivial. Drunk drivers all over the place, gangs shooting up their neighborhoods, and wierdos molesting kids. But it's more important to waste police resources and funds on this stuff? Gimme a break!

to me thats intrapment go after real crimals,

If he isnt a teacher, its back page news. But teachers are held to a higher standard morally, and probably rightfully so. There is a state statute, in fact, that allows the school board to automatically remove teachers .... "the educator: Shall not commit any act of moral turpitude or any felony under the laws of the US or any state or territory, and shall no have a misdemeanor convition involving abuse, neglect or sexual misconduct as defined..." The language also gives the right to revoke employment for "immoral acts" I believe. I suppose he knew all this. However, I agree, as filthy as this is, we have MUCH larger problems to focus our time and attention.

GIVE ME A BREAK THIS MAN WAS DOING SOMETHING THAT HE WAS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE, AND YOU PEOPLE ACT LIKE HE DID NOTHING WRONG, HE DID. IM HAPPY THEY PUT HIS FACE EVERYWHERE AND EMBARASSED HIM, THATS WHAT HE GETS!!!!!

Posted by: zip on Aug 5, 2008 at 01:33 PM
prostitution.hmmmmmm if you make it legal then the police will have more time on there hands to fight real crimes and get guns off the streets.and these stings are a waste of tax payers money. and its called intrapment

Posted by: Toney on Aug 5, 2008 at 01:03 PM
Great way to use taxpayer money. Let's go out and "create" crime.

Posted by: big deal on Aug 5, 2008 at 12:50 PM
really who cares? im with Terri at least he is not victimizing a little kid..

Posted by: Terri on Aug 5, 2008 at 12:40 PM
Wow Ben take a deep breath - we agree with you. I just hope he is not married - that would be embarrassing.

Posted by: Big Guy on Aug 5, 2008 at 12:25 PM
Why all these sting operations on prostitution? What a waste of taxpayers' money. Go after the real criminals - like drug dealers, rapists, robbers and corporate crooks.

Posted by: Mary on Aug 5, 2008 at 12:23 PM
Congratulations to the authorities for doing what is right. Anyway you look at it, it was WRONG! Time to take responsibility for his actions. Unfortunately his family has to suffer too. Maybe he should have thought of that BEFORE he looked for the prostitute.

Posted by: RM on Aug 5, 2008 at 12:00 PM
This should have no bearing on his job. Legalize it collect a tax and go on from there.

Posted by: Richard on Aug 5, 2008 at 11:38 AM
Big Deal.

Posted by: Ben on Aug 5, 2008 at 11:16 AM
A mistake. Thats what this was, a mistake. One time here, that we know of, and the media is raking this guy through the coals. His picture slapped all over the place. Is the idea to embarass this guy? Well your destroying his life! Wow! Everyone has dirty laundry. This guy just got caught. Let the first one without sin cast the first stone. Its not like he molested a child here! The worlds oldest profession will NEVER fully disappear. You all would be surprised what Grandpa, Dad,or your uncles did during the war or at weak moments. Think long and hard before you respond from your perfect sinless little world.Remember the guy who got his civil servant job back after a judge said he could smoke dope on his own time after he was fired. Stating it dosent affect his work??!!

Who cares? With all the bad things going on in this country today, these cops need to do some real policing, not this stuff.

Posted by: Terri on Aug 5, 2008 at 10:53 AM
At least he was not trying to hook up with a child - you have to give him credit for that.
