Neither sun nor heat nor humidity kept hundreds of fans from watching the golfers play the final round of the Cox Classic Sunday afternoon at Champions Run.

It was uncomfortable, yet they still found ways to keep cool. The Nationwide golfers burned up the course. Thirty-seven shot 10-under par or better and Ryan Hietala defeated David Branshaw on the first extra hole of a sudden death playoff.

The sizzling 101-degree high didn't seem to keep anyone at home. Just off the 18th green, Jeff and Deb Harding set up camp with their kids.

"Just making sure they have plenty of liquids and of course we put on the suntan and stuff before we came so keeping an eye on them that way too," said Jeff.

Everyone found a way to make themselves a little more comfortable, every bit of shade was put to use. Some brought shade with them from home.

"The ice for the people to cool off up there," said Matt Lewandowski, who along with Connor Gelvin were racing around keeping ice and cool drinks in the luxury suites.

Everybody knew how to beat the heat, even if they didn't always follow their own advice. "Drink lots of water, lots and lots of water, that's what I'm going to do," said Stephanie Sinos. "This is not water, but it will help me be hydrated in some sense because the ice cubes will become water."

Back at the 18th, the Hardings were hanging tough, the boys chasing after autographs right under the air-conditioned luxury boxes.

"We're roughing it, that's the only way to do it,” laughed Deb Harding. “We want the boys to just learn while they're young the enjoyment of the sport."
