Two teenage girls are recovering from gunshot wounds after being injured early Thursday morning.

The victims are identified as 16-year-old Mikkila Goynes and 17-year-old Ixchele Camp. Goynes was injured in the right forearm and Camp was injured in the right hand.

Officers in the area of 4816 N. 36th Street heard shots fired around 2 a.m.

They found the victims in front of 3715 Grand Avenue. Investigators say the victims were talking to the occupants of a vehicle when they heard shots fired from the east.

The injuries are not life threatening.

A suspect has not been identified.

Why do people feel the need to act so innocent and naive? "What are teen age girls doing out at 2:00 am?" Seriously, if you have to ask, you're under 10. "Where were the parents?" Do you need to ask? They were home, asleep, just like you were. It's the same time your kids sneak out, but you don't know it. Drop the feigned surprise, people. North O has a different culture than West O, but it's steadily moving west, because you act above it all and ignore it. Where are you, parents?

Firstly, im all for wondering why these girls are out at 2am in the morning however, none of us leaving comments know why they were outside talking to someone sitting out in a car so why even question that part that's irrelevant. The question is why are they being shot at?? All these comments are basically saying that we agree that shooting is ok to happen at 2am so JUST DONT BE OUTSIDE...lol..that is just crazy. Yea they should have been in the house but they were not for whatever reason, ppl get shot sitting in there houses, then how would you respond to that????????

Hey H - wanna be mayor? I like way you think!!!!!

Posted by: wj on Jul 25, 2008 at 12:48 PM
To JJ and BLAH BLAH What do you mean by these people

Posted by: sb on Jul 25, 2008 at 12:14 PM
i read some of you saying "no one will say anything to the police" how do you think most people thats been caught get put away?? by witnesses.. so some people do come forward. maybe you cant see who is riding by in a car that probaly dont belong to the shooter, taking shots at you. some people do tell what they see and some dont. how do you know opd is not asking these people to snitch, but is not offering any type of safehaven for these people? do you honestly know if opd is offering that or not? you are about to snitch on this guy who probaly is a gang member and you will have to do it on the stand in front of everyone, with no safehaven to run to afterwards. i but none of you, who constantly complain about snitching will do such a thing knowing there was no where for you to run to after you snitch on someone. my best advice for you is to try to evaluate the whole situation before you stick some stupid comment up. just think about it.

I work in North Omaha and it is so scary. I hate it down here. Theres always crazy gang bangers running around with guns. I wish they would shoot eachother. North O will never change.

Okay, this can't be coincidence - the man who was shot early Friday morning in the same area is also named Goynes. Something more than just randomness here...

Another fine reason why I stay away from Omaha! I have a 16 y/o girl, and she would NEVER think to be out "talking to someone in a car" at 2 AM. There would be severe consequences for such nonsense!! Where are those parents?? Why aren't they taking care of their children?? They should be flogged!!!

Posted by: W on Jul 25, 2008 at 09:25 AM
All the gangs and the wanna-be members should just meet somewhere and shoot each other and get it done and over. That way the rest of us can live without fear of drivebys.

so who exactly is at fault here? bottom line, THEY were shot.

Posted by: H on Jul 25, 2008 at 08:37 AM
Big shock and surprise!! I'm sure they know who shot them. So by Saturday we can expect to see another shooting on the news and for some unknown reason they'll be related. I say we just close off North East Omaha with a big wall and let them solve their own problems. They seem to think they don't need the police's help, fine let them do it their way.

May i just ask where and what were these 2 ladies doing out @ this time of the morning ? getting off work or going to work/SCHOOL ? probably neither, who is going to pay their medical expenses? us the taxpayers. Parents arent you tired of not knowing where you're kids, teenagers, young adult are, MAKING YOU LOOK A MESS BECAUSE WHEN THEY GO DOWNTOWN, THEY WILL LISTEN TO THOSE JUDGES AND POLICE OFFICERS,JURY'S,BUT NOT YOU ! If you are turning your head you should be embarassed that you are not using your full potential to be a good parent or a ROLE MODEL ,REMEMBER THE APPLE DOESN'T FALL FAR FROM THE TREE, UNLESS YOU WANNA ROLL FAR,TO CHANGE. THE "GOYNES"NAME HAS BEEN IN THE PAPER ALOT FROM MURDERS TO SHOOTING TO ??? THESE KIDS NEED A GOOD BUTT WHIPPING AND A HUG. i GET TIRED OF SEEING THE CRIME TAPE @ LEAST ONCE OR TWICE A WEEK , I DO CALL THE POLICE WHEN I WITNESS ANY KIND OF BAD BEHAVIOR BUT UNLIKE THE THUGS I HAVE TO WORK AND SLEEP SO I DO MISS THINGS BUT I'M FEED UP WITH THE CHAOS !!

Why are a couple minor girls out at 2am? I know its summer, but do their parents even give a damn about them?

Posted by: Paula on Jul 24, 2008 at 02:15 PM
With so many shootings going on in Omaha, why in the world are young people still hanging around in the middle of the night? Stay home!!!
