There's a new star in town and the Paparazzi couldn't resist as he checked out the pool in the urban jungle Friday.

The pygmy hippo calf took her first dip in the pool at the Henry Doorly Zoo's Lied Jungle. Until now, the three-month-old has been just wading in a kiddy pool.

Only a few dozen of the animals live in North America. They are endangered in their homeland of Africa.

What makes this youngster a real miracle baby is that he was born to a 30-year-old mother. Zoo experts say mom is well past her prime but that didn't hurt this youngster.

Zoo Director Dr. Lee Simmons says, "You wouldn't think of a hippo as cute. I don't like to call animals cute. But he's a cute little devil."

While the hippos look docile enough, Doc says you don't want to mess with momma. He says she's mean, she bites and she has teeth that are 10 inches long.
