Old job applications with Social Security numbers on them were found in an Omaha dumpster. The discovery came as quite a surprise to one woman.
Eight years after applying for a waitress job, Erin Pesek's job application was found in a construction dumpster near 168th and West Center Road.
“It's very irresponsible for whoever the business owner is. Why would you throw away someone's personal information? This is detrimental to my future, it could be."
About 25 job applications from 2000 were pulled from the dumpster by construction worker Matt Schoville. “It definitely should have been shredded, especially when you can buy a shredder for $15 and save everybody a lifetime of agony."
The applications carry every applicants’ Social Security number along with phone numbers, addresses and references. “There are stalkers out there that could have found this and the females, it tells everything about them," says Schoville.
“I really appreciate whoever found this,” says Pesek. “That's great and I'm glad there are people out there that care about some people and their identity."
It's suspected the applications came from the nearby Parliament Pub. The owner had several establishments in the metro. He regrets throwing out the old records in a waterlogged box without checking the contents more closely.
Also found in the dumpster was an unshredded bank statement for a small business with account numbers and how much was in the account.
Bar owner Mike Miller tells Six On Your Side that "it's a big mistake, I apologize. It won't happen again," adding, “I'll definitely invest in a shredder.”
"I'll burn it in our bonfire," says Pesek.
Since the job applications are eight years old, it's difficult to contact applicants who've changed phone numbers so Six On Your Side shredded the applications and returned the bank statements to the business.
