    Celebrating the Fourth

Fireworks painted dazzling streams across the night sky Friday as thousands in the metro capped a day of Fourth of July celebrations with an evening of pyrotechnic eye candy.

Rosenblatt Stadium was packed for the annual World Herald Fireworks show.

The rash of turbulent weather in the metro lately gave way to clear skies -- a perfect canvas for the night lights. It was the 24th annual show at Rosenblatt.

Earlier in the day, crowds took to the streets in Ralston to join in the traditional celebration of the Fourth of July holiday.

Some wore red, white and blue -- others waved flags at the passing floats and performers.

This is the 48th year for the Ralston event, topped off by a fireworks show at Lakeview Golf Course at 72nd and Q.

Other fireworks shows were set for Boys Town and Champions Run Golf Course.

And in Washington D.C., The Capitol Fourth Concert on Washington's National Mall entertained thousands who braved a rainy afternoon and evening Friday.

I agree with you, 'Pat', as long as the pyros are done by 11 pm (that's my personal cutoff time, even though year-round we go to bed much earlier). I have no problem with people shooting off whatever during a reasonable hour (and as long as they don't burn MY house down). It's a celebration. And we SHOULD celebrate. However, if they're shooting off M-80s at 3 am (like in my father-in-law's neighbrohood), you have every right to call the police, and have every right to expect a prompt response from the police. Although, sounds like last night they were far too busy in the "war zones" of our city. Ya know, we ban smoking, we talk of banning pitbulls, but we have a ban on illegal fireworks and noise after a certain hour that is NEVER enforced. I'm about ready to fire an M-80 at the punk in our neighborhood with the ultra-loud car stereo, because we deal with THAT thing year-ROUND, at ALL hours. And it is FAR more annoying than any firework.

Wise up!. Quit it or be judged by PEACEFUL LOVING PEOPLE & GOD! By WHO you ask? I'm angry, even kind of furious. Millions of Americans & YOU who are supposedly well taught, knowledgeable, educated & well informed in this country, need to go & celebrate your pyrotechnic & I-don't-care bombastic ways someplace else! July 4th was meant to be a day of PEACE! Fire-crackers, M-80s & whatever else startles/makes piercing sounds or BIG DULL BOOMS are NOT the way to enjoy your hard earned money & DAY OFF! STOP BEING STUPID! This is not BAGDAD! yet! We already SUFFERED the CIVIL WAR! The 4th of July is NOT suppose to be a day when it's OK to DISTURB THE PEACE & make Police think it's just a matter of time before ALL LAWS will be UNFORCEABLE! FIRE-CRACKERS etc., DISTURB! I HATE THE SMOKE! I was DUMB once too. I needed a lecture. Don't get God, even ANIMALS & those who DIED by BOMBS for PEACE angry. Remember WORLD WAR I & II? Read/Think until you shed a tear. People DIED for Peace & Quiet- YOU!

We live in the Rosenblatt neighborhood and again this year, people trashed up the area. People, clean up after yourselves

What an absolutely BEAUTIFUL day. Enjoyed the fireworks at Offutt AFB Lake (very impressive show). Not too hot, no bugs biting...it couldn't have been scripted any better! Happy Fourth everyone!
