The storm that blew through Omaha Friday afternoon continued across the river in Council Bluffs where residents got to work Saturday on removing debris from their property.

"So me and my girls went upstairs and shut the windows really quick and that's when the hail started and it was coming so fast it felt like it was going to hit you," says Kristen O’Grady. "I just couldn't believe the velocity of the wind, how strong and how quick it came."

The storm left behind uprooted trees and countless piles of debris along 16th Street and North 11th Avenue. So many branches fell in this part of Council Bluffs that they've become the norm in yards rather than the exception. "Just in shambles right now."

Kevin Reed was bringing his dogs inside Friday night when a tree uplifted right outside his front door. "I hear this cracking, start looking around, this tree just starts falling. Boom!"

A glimpse down 16th Street and you see debris littering the sidewalk. The cleanup has begun, but Reed says his neighbors could use an extra set of hands. "If we had a little bit of help from the city it would be a lot better. People wouldn't be so mad, be willing to do this stuff."

Up the street, Ron Smith has a different view. He doesn't mind the extra yard work. "Well, you put it in perspective, we went downstairs, we were safe, you know some people weren't so lucky."

We lost NOTHING in the storm last night; however, last summer we lost two MAJOR limbs out of our ash tree in front. My husband was going to a family funeral at 6 am the next morning (after the FIRST major limb came down); his dad did give me a hand saw and I drove my husband's truck to work the next day (limb prevent MY car). when I got home, I spent 3 and a half HOURS with a little handsaw and a hand pruner to clear our driveway and NO one offered me help (well, a couple people asked if I wanted to borrow a chainsaw...we OWN one, but I didn't know how to run it). I did it all myself, put the branches in the back of hubby's pickup (with driveway cleared, I could take my own car to work the next day). GEEZ, people, suck it UP! If I can do it as a 46-yr old WOMAN with one destroyed knee (husband and father-in-law AMAZED the next day when they came back, what I did); ANYONE can do it. But that's what we are as a country...sit on your duff and compain about the government. WHATEVER.

He wasn't saying that the city should help clean up, he was meaning the tree pick-up, some people can't find pick-ups to haul it all away!!

Agree with Joann and Kate. Aside from the Boys, I saw little damage to the city today. We should be grateful.

Well said Joann...I agree. Suck it up and clean up like the rest of us are. The city is doing the best they can.

what a nation of wimps we have become. everyone expects the govt to take care of their needs instead of just getting down to work. There are hundreds and hundreds of people needing help after the storm. yes the city should help some but it is more efficient if they step back and look at all the areas and assess work on the amount of damage and location so as to use the resources effectively. Ron Smith has the right view. There are probably others in the city who need help more--the elderly and those with no family or male relative nearby to help. would you want the city to
