Rescuers were digging Thursday through the wreckage of a northwest Missouri home where authorities said two people died in an explosion.
The blast took place Wednesday night in Maryville near the campus of Northwest Missouri State University. The cause was unknown.
The dead have been identified as 93-year-old Lois Hall and her 69-year-old son Carroll Hall. A second son, 49-year-old Donald Hall, survived the blast. He managed to crawl out of the house and was airlifted to the K-U Medical Center. Donald Hall suffered severe burns but a family spokesman told Channel 6 News that he is expected to survive.
The explosion was felt at the university's sports arena, where a men's basketball game was under way. Northwest Missouri State sports information director Chad Waller says it felt like a tremor from an earthquake.
The state fire marshal will assist in the investigation.
