The principal of Lincoln Southeast High School said he does not believe other students watched two students allegedly having sex in a hallway this week.
Patrick Hunter-Pirtle has sent letters and e-mails to tell parents he disagrees with the Lincoln police's assertion that as many as 15 students watched when a young couple was caught allegedly having sex in a dark, secluded storage area.
Police cited a 17-year-old girl and 19-year-old man with public indecency after a staff member found them Tuesday.
Hunter-Pirtle said the group of students went to the area only after they heard the staff member talking to the couple.
Officer Katherine Finnell said the department believes the officer's report, which said the students were watching from the other side of a security gate 70 feet away. Officer Mike Holm, who is based at the school, said he found the male student going around the corner and pulling up his pants, the girl on the floor, partially unclothed, with students yards away watching.
Finnell said because the students were watching the couple, the act was considered public indecency.
Hunter-Pirtle said staff members are constantly monitoring the school and he does not plan to make any changes following the incident.
He said it's been difficult to hear people make assumptions following the incident.
"If you're a parent and you're listening to that ...you make judgments, like this is a main hallway where students stand around and just watch people have sex," Hunter-Pirtle said. "It's easy to point fingers when you don't know all the facts."
