Two Omaha homeowners had their security shaken this week after separate and very bold home invasions. One victim shares the story of her attack.

At her house near 64th and Parkview Lane, Patti Glinsmann calls it lunch time, but says after three men held her and her daughter at gunpoint Tuesday demanding money, it felt more like high noon. "The gun was huge, it was huge."

Patti was making lunch for her daughter when three men came barreling through the door. Immediately, one of them drew a gun and she knew she was in trouble.

Patti says her first thought was about her 4-year-old daughter. "I'm not worried about me, but I don't want my child to be a victim of this either. I don't want her to see her mom shot."

Patti says she pleaded with her three attackers not to harm her. "He's like, I'm not going to shoot your daughter. Then he started screaming at me and slamming my head on the table and put the gun up to my head."

Patti says one thing in particular frightened her about the gun. "It had an infrared on it, so that's all I keep seeing.”

As to why this happened, someone was moving out of her house the day before. She says she believes the home invasion may have been related to that person. Anyone with information is asked to call Omaha Police.

It's the second home invasion this week. Police say there are a few things we can all do to protect ourselves. First, if you're home, make sure your door is locked and deadbolted. Next, keep a porch light on. Finally, make sure your garage door is shut. "I'm scared to stay here, really," says Patti.

Patti won't forget how she was terrorized. "For them to come in and do this with my child here, that is the most frightening thing in the world." Her real concern is that her daughter won't either.

The second home invasion occurred near 90th and Military. Police say an armed suspect entered a home while three people slept. One victim was injured.

In Omaha you DON"T have the right to protect yourself or family. Omaha cops are the only ones able to do that and they are too lazy and don't really care about the public (unless you have money).

There is a penalty for UNECESSARY ROUGHNESS! in football. It stands to reason the same should hold true for HOME INVASIONS too. Big moron bullies! What were the questions those invaders asked or what did they want? Their time is coming. Somebody upstairs sees, hears & knows all, if you know what I mean. I think a fair amount of people in Omaha realize that desparate times call for desparate measures, but to invade a home? Of course, as usual, the public is kept in the dark about a great many things that took/take place after crime stories like the above happen. We're left to wonder. You realize that detectives, etc., only solve a certain percentage of crimes committed in Omaha. Inform the public a little more and you just might make that percentage go up! Stop treating Omahans like mushrooms by keeping us in the dark and feeding us S^%t. Have a good day. :-|

Dear Patti - I am very glad you and your daughter are safe! As for Karin - not all people in North Omaha are POOR! I think the dog idea is a good one. I live in the Keystone area and these attacks are getting a little close to home for me, it is very quiet and peaceful. I love my neighborhood and don't plan on leaving! I would never think about moving west, those who respond to these postings do not seem very friendly and almost always appear to have a stereotypical comment.

I would have been shooting as soon as the door flew open...

Justice, you support the death penalty because it stops things like this? Oh wait, NE has the death penalty yet this stuff happens over and over. Great logic.

You're right Bill. I also have a large dog (German Shephard) and he is a very loving dog until someone he knows comes to the house. I also would suggest she get a dog if possible.

I am sorry this happened. This is just the reason I have a dog and she lets me know if anyone is even walking by my house. There are a lot of dogs at the humane society looking for homes that would make an excellent watch dog for anyone. Patti if you can have a dog I would suggest you visit the shelter and find one that fits your home and family. They make the best watch dogs and you are saving a life.

KARIN, who are to say that the people in that area dont have money. Have you ever thought that maybe, just maybe some people dont get money and just leave. Believe it or not it really is a beautiful, comfortable, safe side to North Omaha. I lived here 21 years.

This is EXZCTLY why people should own guns. If you walk foot into my house while I'm home to rob me, you'll be carried out in a body bag. I DON'T MISS when I shoot! Besides, it's called self defense.

I know it may seem like a little thing, but I have heard that leaving your porch light on all night is a great deterent for overnight crime (like the article states). It would be interesting to see what the effect on crime would be if everyone left their porch lights on at night. I know that it wouldn't stop all criminals but it might stop a few.

Why don't people get jobs? They aren't hitting the people that have money either judging by the neighborhoods they chose. Leave these people alone and get a job like the rest of the world has to

This is exactly why I support the death penalty.

Oh my..I'm so glad you and your daughter are ok. It could have been so much worse. I hope these guys are caught before someone is killed.

To Patti (again) - our dog is not a pit bull, but a full sized collie.

Posted by: Bill on May 22, 2008 at 04:54 AM
Patti - it is a shame that this kind of stuff happens all the time. If you are allowed to get a dog, do it - a large one. We have a large dog, and he lets us know when someone is on our property or in our house without permission. I would not want to be the one to be discovered by him. He is good with family and friends, but not foes.
