    Facing up to 12 years

Seventeen-year-old Vincent McGee is facing up to a dozen years in prison for injuring a postal worker with a sawed-off shotgun.

McGee fired the weapon in the direction of David Bojanski last July and several pellets struck Mr. Bojanski.

Prosecutors say that McGee and another teen had approached Bojanski as he was delivering mail. They asked him for directions to a swimming pool. Authorities say McGee then fired the weapon.

    Bojanski was not seriously injured.

McGee was sentenced to eight to 12 years and will be eligible for parole in four.

His parents should be jailed too. After all he is a minor. They should have to pay the postal workers bills and all the time he had to take off work!!!!!Him and his family should be shipped off to an island and never be allowed to return.

Yes, he should be tried in a Federal court for the short shotgun, that's a hefty Federal crime.

Posted by: Question on May 25, 2008 at 01:44 AM
Could this thug have gotten more time if he had been charged in Federal court? Isn't shooting at a federal employee a federal crime? Just wondering. I hope he rots in his cell; he deserves it!

Fired a weapon in his direction what kind of junk is that? He aimed in that poor guy's direction and pulled the trigger. It was a planned act and thank goodness the postal guy was not seriously injured. Out in 4 years. Great he is now a murderer in training!

I am a postal employee, a carrier and everyday we put our lives at risk for doing a service to the community whether it is peoples dogs attacking us, or getting bad mouthed or even getting shot at. We work very hard to deliver your mail and for someone to shoot us for nothing.....that is very sad and very scary! This boy is old enough to know right and wrong and he should know the consequences....he should serve the full sentence or else he is not going to learn...he will just do it again cause he got away with it before.

When this kid 1st went to jail for the crime, he was acting like he was a thug and proud of what he did. It was all an act. This kid is a weak minded person. He is a big time follower. Deep down there is a good kid in him. While in prison he will probalbly get in trouble and get time added on for doing something stupid for someone else. If you people have read my posts before, you probably now understand why I am always complaining that there are too many slaps on the wrists for juvenile crime in Douglas county. The weapon itself should have given him 5 years min. He should have gotten a minimum of 17 years, out in 10. It is not 100% the parents fault. It is the fault that the thug life is glamourized in parts of Omaha. "don't snitch". Who is really running N Omaha? It is kids with sawed off shotguns. They are the heros of these followers. I say get rid of these cults just as we get rid of cults in other parts of the US. Turn it to the feds because the police can't stop it.

To just me. you say that you have tried everything and he will not listen . then he needs tough love. i have two boys (men) that did not want to work and i was working two jobs and i got tired. i put them both out and one went to jail for robbery, and the other slept were he could until he got a job and now lives on his own and got his GED and is doing good and the other is doing 5-10. i know i am and was a good mother ,but after awhile you have to let go and hope that take what you taught them and do good with it. life is what you make of it. i sleep good now. i know where they both are. they tell me all the time that i am a good mother and that it was not me that made them act out the way they did. they still love me after i put them out.

Perhaps when he is released from prison, his father will do the right thing and not accept him at home. He will be over 18 and responsible for himself. Keep your doors locked. I am sorry this goofball has no respect for others, but he shouldn't be fed and housed in your home.

marie his dad will not kick him out. he says hes still in school. hes 18 still in the 11th grade. when we tell him no he goes balstic u can not tell him no. he has beaten up a security guard and the security guard was sent to the hospital... guess what the law done???? Nothing.

Can you say attempted murder of a federal employee? Attempted murder of a human being? Send this stupid kid to jail for life. It's that simple. One less bad apple from the gene pool.

    I PRAY ALL THIS STOPS

Posted by: sick of the excuses on May 22, 2008 at 01:36 PM
Just me- that is exactly what is wrong with kids today! You say there is nothing you can do. He's 18, kick him out! Have him make it on his own or follow your rules!!!!

Posted by: Glen on May 22, 2008 at 11:12 AM
The kid was showing off, trying to tell others what a big bad thug he is. Trouble is, he doesn't have sense enough to realize that being a thug is not admirable. If the postman had died, we would still be looking for the shooter and he would be prancing around with pride at his action. His limited outlook on life is a travesty of what he could have done positively. There are enough good influences out there athat he could have chosen a better way to behave - this was not a "mistake".

I think Vincent should train to be a postal carrier while in prison and then when he's free in 4 years or less, deliver the mail in North Omaha from Midnight till 4am wearing his anklets! Every village has it's idiot!

Posted by: Bill. on May 22, 2008 at 08:00 AM
You bleeding hearts never seem to amaze me. This thug darn near killed a guy - federal employee. You do the crime, you do the time! It is simple as that. Maybe being in the "big house" will knock some sense into him. Hopefully he can use the time behind bars to become a better citizen and do something PRODUCTIVE with his life when he gets out.

You know i hate it when people say well its the parenets fault that this 17 y/o done this no its not. I live with my BF whos 18 y/o son still lives here and we can't tell him to do anything w/o him becoming balstic and make matters worse its the teens not that parents. This kid does wheat he wants when he wants and no one not even the law can tell him otherwise.

Just wondering about some of these very negative comments - would you print these off, show them to your pastor and claim them as yours? "Never forgive?" I can understand anger about what Mr. McGee did. Mr. Bojanski said in an interview he doesn't sleep well at nights - he hasn't gotten over it. But I figure it's between Mr. Bojanski and Mr. McGee and the Lord about the forgiveness thing - the rest of us can be outraged or saddened that Mr. McGee seems to be following in his father's footsteps off to prison. But why attack someone like Precious, who feels pity for the rest of the family? She's showing good manners is all - an example from which I think we all can learn.

I think we need to define "village" as 1)parents and extended family; 2)teachers; 3)church leaders and 4)directors of youth groups, coaches, or other people employed or volunteering in the direction of youth. Don't drag the rest of us into it. And don't suggest we volunteer, either, because we're too busy protecting our property from teenaged thugs, vandals and thieves.

Are you kidding me? He tried to KILL a federal employee because he had nothing better to do. I hope he serves the full 12 with the big boys in the pen. Enjoy every minute...

Posted by: Dave on May 21, 2008 at 07:17 PM
Okay NL so if i shoot you its only a mistake? And NO he should never ever be forgiven he was shooting at someone! I can't help it if he is a family member if thats why you are defending him,but he deserves no defending. If he shoplifted,or egged a car, that would be considered a mistake I guess. But not shooting at someone. And Roxanne,no my kid would NEVER shoot at someone! Does yours?

Posted by: Cornell Booth on May 21, 2008 at 06:13 PM
We gang bangin on the mail man now. Wow, no sympathy. SORRY. GIVE THAT BOY A SNICKER HE'LL BE THERE FOR A WHILE.

Posted by: Allen on May 21, 2008 at 05:39 PM
Why not sentence this kid to death. He tried to kill another human being. HE is not misunderstood, he is not respectful, he is a would-be murderer. 4 years. Makes we want to throw up. Kill him.

Posted by: Roxanne on May 21, 2008 at 04:35 PM
I somewhat agree with Parson, some kids do get lost in the cracks and it is sad seeing some of these comments; it could be your kid next time. I learned a long time ago, don’t ever say “my kid will never…” because your kid will. As far as the whole village raising kids, I completely disagree.

Posted by: NL on May 21, 2008 at 04:07 PM
OMG...some of you people are draging this out like Mr.Steve..you act like noone should be forgiven for what they did wrong..he made a mistake he's just a kid...now he's doing his time...But im SURE that vincent has changed and became a beeter person. So i wish him the best and if anyone don't like that than OH WELL!!

Posted by: Lori on May 21, 2008 at 03:51 PM
Too bad he'll suffer years of "bad" for five seconds of "stupid". He deserves what he gets. And as far as that "village" BS...raise your own kids. I don't have any, don't want any, don't work with any, and don't find it my responsibility to do someone else's work for them.

Posted by: Gary on May 21, 2008 at 03:46 PM
Parson: When does parenting become everyone else's responsibility? Did this person not have parents? Relatives? He probably will only serve 4 years anyway. A small price to pay for being stupid.

Posted by: cece on May 21, 2008 at 03:38 PM
DW--What gives him the right to come out of jail resentful? It doesn't sound like anyone is responsible for him going to jail--he did it all on his own. I wish EVERYONE would stop justifying bad or illegal behavior with bonehead excuses.

Posted by: Anonymous on May 21, 2008 at 03:37 PM
Parson - a mistake is dialing the wrong phone number not SHOOTING someone. Shooting someone is a CRIME. I don't think 12 years is enough. Don't forget the rest of your little saying. Precious - you feel sorry for his family??!! Where were they while there 17 year old son was running around with a sawed-off shot gun. Let me guess, he got in with the wrong crowd? I got in alot of trouble while I was growing up, and blaming the group of kids he hung around with is a crock. They didn't force hime to do it, and if they did, why didn't he tell someone. Parents need to be parents, not friends, not drinking buddies but parents, own up to your children. And those that defend him or his parents, you need to take a hard hard look at your own kids!!!!

Posted by: Mikey on May 21, 2008 at 03:24 PM
He should get the death penalty. You know 12 years in prison isn't going to fix his problem. Only ridding this idiot of our society will do the trick!

Posted by: Anonymous on May 21, 2008 at 03:02 PM
Bojanski was taking a step off the curb when they shot. He was extremely lucky. It was not an accident.

Posted by: CM on May 21, 2008 at 02:59 PM
Four years for shooting a person. That is ludicrous. He knew exactly what he was doing so you have premeditation. I don't want to hear "what good, respectful boy" he was. Good, respectful boys do NOT run around carrying sawed-off shotguns and shooting people. He will only be 21 years old when he gets out. And what do you think will happen then?

Posted by: Biff on May 21, 2008 at 02:20 PM
C'mon, parson, the "village" can only do so much. The REAL question is (just like always): Where were his parents? Maybe the proper term should be "biological contributors" because some people don't parent!!

Posted by: RM on May 21, 2008 at 02:07 PM
How much time for a weapons charge or did they plea bargin that. Sawed off shotguns are not legal.

Posted by: DW on May 21, 2008 at 01:35 PM
Goes in just a boy and comes out a man...and probably a very resentful violent young man. My biggest hope is that he will have learned a valuable lesson and be a better person when it his time is all done.

Posted by: Tom on May 21, 2008 at 12:45 PM
he'll be out in 4 with good behavior to do it again. Should have given him alot more than "up to a dozen years" should have to serve all 12 before being paroled.

Posted by: Jamie on May 21, 2008 at 12:11 PM
Loser. Why do people DO stuff like that? They weren't even robbing him.. just felt like shooting someone I guess as a prank. Nice prank Vincent! What ever happened to your buddy that was pranking with you? What kind of jail time is HE getting?

Posted by: parson on May 21, 2008 at 12:07 PM
I worked at the school Vincint went to last year and can say if he was in trouble once he was in trouble a dozen times. Still, it hurts to see children slip through the crack. And it's upsetting to see some of these comments- some of you really need to get over yourselves and realize everyone makes mistakes in life- some are just bigger than others. Remember- it takes a village to raise a child- where were you when this child needed you?

Posted by: Dave on May 21, 2008 at 11:30 AM
Hopefully he serves the full 12 years!

Posted by: Steve on May 21, 2008 at 11:16 AM
LET HIM ROT! WHAT A PIECE OF GARBAGE! Shooting at a mailman with a shotgun...WHAT A LOSER!

Posted by: Wrist Slap on May 21, 2008 at 11:09 AM
How about having the short shotgun, very illegal, so how many years did he get for that?

Posted by: Precious on May 21, 2008 at 11:07 AM
Very sad to hear. This young man worked at the local pool last summer, and was very respectful. I hate that his family has to go through this. I pray for him. Glad to know the postal worker was ok.
