A Lincoln man who last year held his girlfriend hostage in her home over four days has been sentenced to up to 20 years in prison.

Timothy Schrader had pleaded no contest to first-degree false imprisonment, attempted second-degree sexual assault and a weapons count. In exchange for his plea, prosecutors dropped a charge of second-degree domestic assault.

Police say Schrader's victim, then 44-years-old, was severely beaten with a baseball bat, burned with a cigarette lighter, choked and sexually assaulted.

Police also say the 35-year-old Schrader didn't let her have food or water while he held her captive in a closet in January 2007.

In 1991, Schrader was sentenced to four to 10 years in prison for kidnapping.

Up to 20 years? Means out in about 5. He will do it again. Should be life with out parole. Better yet he needs beat and treated like he treated her.

This guy is going to do it again just as soon as he's out of prison. I'll just about bet he does it again to her if she hasn't moved out of state and hasn't married. She might not be this lucky to survive this next time. Should have given him alot more than 20 yrs.

His punishment should be what he put his girlfriend through -- "Police also say the 35-year-old Schrader didn't let her have food or water while he held her captive in a closet" I truly believe that the punishment you receive should be the same as whatever you put your victim through.

UP TO 20 years... UP TO... what's that mean? He's only going to be in for 5? I understand there's probably only so much jail time allowed for eac charge, but Anonymous is right.. should be there for life. He's going to do this over and over again.

If he kidnapped once and went to prison for it got out and did it again why dont they keep him in prison for life. It is pretty obvious this is a dangerous individual (doesnt deserve to be called a man) and is likely to commit the same crime as soon as he is released. He will be out in no time if he is on good behavior in prison. Gotta love the court system.
