The operator of a crane that was moving a beam in a construction zone on Interstate 80 near Adair, Iowa was killed Tuesday when the crane toppled over.

The Iowa Department of Public Safety says 27-year-old Dustin Flinn of Atlantic was working for A.M. Cohron & Son, Inc. of Atlantic when the crane became top heavy and tipped over, falling through the bridge deck and onto the railroad tracks below.

The accident happened about 8 a.m. as crews were working to replace an I-80 bridge over the Iowa Interstate Railroad, about one mile west of Adair.

How tragic. Poor man. May God comfort his family.

My condolences to this man's family. Construction work is just as dangerous as being a firefighter or a policeman, without the fanfare and eulogies. Anything that can kill you is horrible and merits respect.

Bottom line is a man has lost his life and a family has lost their loved one. It is a shame. I hope that cranes and operators will be safer this season.

9 times out of 10 a crane accident is due to operator error, so before you go and say cranes are not safe enough read some statistics, My thought and prayers are with you!

Why have we been hearing so much lately about fatalities and cranes? Something has to be done to make them safer!!
