Gunfire and fighting at an Omaha party left five people hurt Sunday morning.

Shots were fired just after 1:30 a.m. at the Miller's Landing pavilion near Abbott Drive and Freedom Park Road, which is between downtown and Eppley Airfield.

As the party began to break up, several fights broke out and someone began shooting. Police report three of the victims sustained injuries as a result of the gunfire. None were considered life threatening.

Two others were hurt after being knocked down and stepped on as the crowd was leaving.

The victims are between 19 and 23 years old.

I think that whole party was ridiculous. They weren't even checking people at the door or patting them down to make sure no one had weapons. A ton of fights broke out inside the tent, and once the fighting was over, the party didn't stop & no one was arrested. There must not have been ANY security there because nothing happened.

You're right anonymous at 12:53, I do have some of the best officers in the city working for me. You are also right there are guns in other parts of the city. About 46 in NW, 31 in SE and 32 in SW. I'd say the 97 in NE (where all the gun violence is) is a step in the right direction. I won't apologize for pumping up my officers down here. Somebody has to because of all the haters on here and the haters we have to deal with everyday. I just got called a "racist, white, MF" by a guy I helped arrest for punching his wife in the face. But yes it's obviously the police's fault about all the crime in this city, and not the criminal thug element of all races that plague parts of this city. Stop bashing the police all the time people and help them become part of the solution. We can't put people away if nobody tells us anything, or calls us when stuff is happening. We can't be everywhere, even when there are 30 to 40 of us down here on a weekend evening.

You know what Omaha stop blaming the mayor and our officers. If all of you would get off your pitty pots and stop acting like the victim, you would be home and fighting and killing each other. Blame yourselves and take on the responsibilty and own up./ We have the finest officers around. Maybe they shouldn't come to the scene just once and let all you all kill each other. GROW UP.

Robert- This area is is the southeast precinct and is not patrolled by officers in Northeast. By the way there were at least 29 officers plus probably another half dozen gang unit officers working in northeast Omaha Saturday night, where this did not happen by the way.

First of all, stop crying about the stadium. It's a done deal and all your whining won't stop it. Second of all, stupidity knows no boundaries. There are fools in every part of town.

Posted by: Anonymous on May 19, 2008 at 01:18 PM
Robert I hear they are hiring, make it two officers. Otherwise keep quiet and be thankful they are here for you if you need them.

I know original cop, your crew is the absolute greatest. you know, other areas of the city are recovering guns as well. just and fyi

Maybe we should have an OK Corral type shoot out where anyone with a gun can come and shoot at anyone else who comes, the last one standing wins. Maybe gunfights at High Noon.

I wish you people would get off the nothing good happens at 1:30 in the morning bit. Some of us work late hours and then would like the priveldge of going out after work. according to you we should all go immediately home and hiberate. I think that there are thousands of people partying and eating at that time of night and NOT getting into trouble. It's the individuals that caouse the problem. I do hope though that you are never out past ten pm becuase then you must be planning to cause trouble. A BIG raspberry to you.

And who was arrested for this?....as usual NOBODY! All these shootings happen in tiny North Omaha yet no one is ever caught. There must be only one cop on patrol from 11p.m. til 5a.m.

Where the new stadium is going to be built is not gang haven. It's right across the street from the Qwest center. How much gang violence have you heard about going on there? By the way have any of you been to the CWS? Do you see how many cops are around? Oh yeah updated tally of guns from the hood. 97 since the first of the year, 65 since March alone, and 12 in the last week. (all in northeast) Good thing that we don't care and aren't doing anything.

sorry folks but the mayor as the head of the city is responsible for the city, the good things and the bad. maybe if the city spent as much passion fighting for gun laws as they did for a stadium maybe there would be a difference on the streets.

Simply amazing nobody was killed. When does it stop?

Posted by: Tom Location: Omaha on May 19, 2008 at 06:49 AM
Looks like a real warm summer and hot time in the city. Pass the biscuits & gravy and a box of ammo.

Posted by: Brent Location: Omaha on May 18, 2008 at 11:34 PM
Welcome to Omaha. If you plan on attending the CWS, please remember to bring your flack jackets and bullet proof coats. Omaha gangs have some heavyweight weapons...And their turf ain't too far away from downtown.

Citizen & Shawn, while I agree that Becker & Dave sound cold and callous and their comments about the stadium have nothing to do with the fights/shooting, their comments do reflect the sentiments of a lot of the posters on this board... it's really hard to feel anything anymore when we read the same story (different day, different location) every day. Sad but true.

Posted by: Becker Location: It's TRUE ! on May 18, 2008 at 10:57 PM
Shawn....Its very bad that people got hurt. Thats a given. Whats gonna happen when it hits the national news when it's reported that gunshots are being heard in the vicinity of the new ball park during the CWS ? Would you want to place yourself in harms way for no more than a baseball game? Think about it...

Posted by: ANON Location: NE on May 18, 2008 at 09:25 PM
where will the morons go once the stadium is built? It seems that if there were more people populating the area it may become safer....the mayor and the stadium have nothing to do with idiots that carry guns anyway. Strengthen the gun violations. Make the punishment FIT the crime. IT is NOT OK TO FIRE WEAPONS RANDOMLY but it seems that every MORON that carries a weapon does it anyway.

Posted by: Citizen on May 18, 2008 at 08:20 PM
The Morons are the ones out fighting at 1:30 in the morning. If they were at home acting like adults in their own homes instead of "partying at 1:30 this would not of happened. Stop blaming the Mayor for adults that behave badly. I don't like the idea of the ballpark either, but he is not the one causing these people to behave as the are.

Posted by: shawn Location: omaha on May 18, 2008 at 07:48 PM
This is truely sad. 5 people were hurt and yet all of the anti stadium people can do is try and spin it against the stadium. To Becker and Dave i lost 10 points from my IQ by just reading your post.

Posted by: Becker Location: East Omaha on May 18, 2008 at 06:46 PM
Getting closer and closer all the time to downtown, the Quest Center and where the ball park will be. Told you so!

Posted by: Dave Location: Omaha on May 18, 2008 at 06:22 PM
Oh wait...this is not anywhere near where the new stadium will be built is it? Can't be the Mayor and all the proponents say there is never any violence down there. Just warming up for CWS time I guess! Oh and what a bunch or MORONS these people are
