Jason Williams has been sentenced to more than 60 years in prison for sexually assaulting an 83-year-old woman in 2005.

Williams broke into Elaine Anderson's home near 23rd and Castelar on New Year's Eve. Ms. Anderson wrote in a letter that she heard dogs barking, looked out her back door and that's when Williams forced his way in. He knocked her down the stairs, assaulted her and left.

Elaine's daughter, Mary Sailors says, "It broke her spirit. She blamed herself in some way with why did this happen to me. She never did anything wrong in her whole life."

A jury convicted Williams in March and Judge Michael Coffey sentenced him on Friday. The victim's family says justice has been served and they can now begin healing.

Ms. Anderson died a year after the attack. There is no medical evidence linking her death to the assault but her family believes it was something she was never able to overcome.

"She never recovered from that incident at all," Ms. Sailors said.

In addition to finding Williams guilty of sexual assault, the jury convicted him of false imprisonment, attempted first degree assault and burglary.

Jason Williams lived in Ms. Anderson's neighborhood and her family says he had harassed several people in the area, including Elaine. She sought and received a protection order against Williams. That protection order expired a month before he attacked her.

I worked in a video store in South Omaha when I was in college. Elaine and her daughters were regular customers. She was one of my favorites, always smiling and very funny. I can't believe that she had to suffer at the hands of this monster. To her family I send my sincerest condolenses during this painful time. To Mr. Williams, as a Christian I am supposed to forgive give you, but actually, I hope you rot in Hell.

Is this a racist hate crime? The victim is white and the attacker is black. Why arent we hearing the words "hate crime from racism"? If it were the other way around, I can guarantee that we would hear how it was racist. Oh, I forgot, it is racist.

Yet another case of a very bad dude being out on the streets when he should have been locked up, and this poor woman suffered horribly

What a loser. Here's hoping this story is read by some of his future "roommates" in the Pen and they return the favor.

So, 60 years. Does that really mean 30? So, if he is 30 now, then he could be back on the streets, starting all over again, when he is 60. A shame.

And now we'll have to pay for this sleazebag's care for a few more years. His mother should be locked up too.

My bet is that she was not the first. At least, she may have been the last.
