More than a month after Hurricane Katrina hit the gulf coast, the heartland continues to give.
Truck-loads of water, food and clothing have been sent to those in need. And now, a truckload of toys will be sent from Omaha.
Its thanks in large part to five-year-old K.J. Louis, who has collected hundreds of tows.
"There's teddy bears, there is one of these," K.J. said. "You can press the button and get all kinds of bubbles out."
K.J. talks about who he's giving the toys to and why.
"The children," he says. "They squished them away to the water."
"He went like this, 'they lost all their toys,' and I said yes they did dear," K.J.'s mother Sherri said. "So he went and grabbed some of his toys to give and I just wanted to take it a few steps further."
At first, the goal was to fill up a cart full of new toys to send down to families in New Orleans, but when they filled about 30 carts; the process started a new campaign.
"K.J. Karts and Katrina Kids," said K.J.
"I didn't think it really would, but it's such a great cause, so it's easy to give," Sherri said.
Several corporations have joined in the effort. Toys R Us is keeping its store open two extra hours Sunday night, from 6-8 p.m., just for people wanting to buy toys to donate.
K.J.'s Karts for Katrina Kids will be at the Oak View Toys R Us Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. Anyone donating a toy can take part in the games and raffles that will take place there.
